Construction boom in Qatar, between risk and opportunities

The construction sector, which has played a minor role in the Qatari economy compared with the oil and gas industry, has become a cornerstone of the national development strategy and today is in the midst of a real boom.

The sector is boosted by huge investment needs for hosting the soccer world cup in 2022 and by the implementation of the Qatar National Vision 2030 plan, making the country an El Dorado for large international construction firms.

In the absence of population growth, this boom triggered by extreme growth in the construction sector risks running out of steam or even turning into a bubble and giving rise to disappointment for companies and their employees.
